“Only the book is our friend” is the title of this book. It is a reading book for the lower grades in Romany education. Coordinated and supervised by Mr. Sevgul Abdula of the Romany NGO “Kham Sijan”, and with the advice and collaboration of the directors and teachers of the Romany schools in the municipality of Šuto Orizari, an anthology of stories was collected by local writers, poets, teachers and musicians. It is divided into eight parts and it contains Romany poetry, legends, fairy tales, songs, history, and philosophy.
2000 copies were printed in Skopje, Macedonia and then presented to the local schools in Šuto Orizari: “Brakja Ramiz Hamid”, and ”26 Juli”. The book is the first of its kind to be approved of by the Macedonian Ministry of Education.
Amongst the contributors you can find such illustrious names as: Jašar Ekrem, Bizlim Muzafer, Ali Guneš, Haddji Ali Rustemi, Ljatif Demir, Dr. Trajko Petrovski, Gjuner Abdula, Sejdo Jašar and Sevgul Abdula himself.
